Registration for the 'Community Health Buddy' Training is Now Open!

What: 10-hour training for community managers in social co-working spaces and purpose-driven organizations

Goal: Empowerment to initiate and support health-promoting measures in the workplace

Date: October 15 & 16, 2024

Location: Berlin Kreuzberg

Content:
Day 1: Self-care, self-contact, individual resilience & mindfulness
Day 2: Relationship culture, relational space, collective activation

Health and well-being are of central importance in today’s workplace and deserve more attention. In non-profit organizations and social co-working spaces, where people come together to work collaboratively and drive social change, a healthy, supportive environment is essential. Those who engage in activism or social initiatives often prioritize societal needs over their own, frequently at the expense of their well-being.

Prerequisites for Participation in the Training:

  • You work in a social co-working space or a purpose-driven network organization, perhaps even in an association.
  • Ideally, you are already in the role of a community manager or are taking on such responsibilities.
  • You have an interest in learning more about individual inner development as well as fostering a healthy culture in the workplace and are ready to initiate your own formats at your workplace.
Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.

Self-care as a Political Strategy

Self-care as a political strategy is based on the understanding that well-being is not only a personal concern but the ultimate goal of our work and commitment. In a world marked by pain, poverty, trauma, illness, war, violence, and suffering, activists and changemakers face enormous challenges. In light of these burdens, self-care becomes a radical act. It is about reclaiming one’s power and consciously advocating for one’s own well-being and that of the community. When we take care of our own well-being, we lay the groundwork to be there for others sustainably and effectively in the long run. In a world that often drains us, caring for ourselves is not only necessary but a revolutionary act that strengthens our resilience and preserves our ability to advocate for others.

The Role of "Community Health Buddies"

In this context, the future role of Community Health Buddies becomes increasingly important. At its core, this role involves promoting health and well-being within one's (work) community. As civil society organizations and networks are facing increasing pressure and shrinking spaces for action, Community Health Buddies help create a healthier work environment and thus regenerative spaces where all members feel well supported.

On October 15 & 16, 2024, betterplace lab will offer training for Community Health Buddies for the first time. This training is aimed at anyone who actively contributes to health promotion in their environment and wants to create a culture of well-being, especially those already in community management roles. Community managers will gain additional qualifications on the topic of health promotion through this training. The goal of the 10-hour training is for community managers to initiate programs and formats that specifically aim to promote mental and emotional health. Community Health Buddies will also facilitate access to health resources. The training for Community Health Buddies provides the necessary knowledge and skills for this role. Additionally, this training is an opportunity to connect with individuals from other community-oriented places and build a support network.
