For non-profit organizations, digitization is both an opportunity and a challenge. On the one hand, digital technologies open up completely new opportunities for them, for example to promote civil society involvement, interact with beneficiaries, network worldwide and make their own work more efficient and effective. On the other hand, non-profit organizations must change themselves radically if they want to take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitization and adequately address social change. They should not only change their approach to (new) technologies, but also be prepared to put their own organisational structures and processes, their culture and working methods as well as their orientation and strategy to the test.

This study examines the awareness of the need for change and the ability to change in the non-profit sector with regard to digitization. It aims to show which support non-profit organisations need in order to better assess the opportunities of digitisation and to make positive use of them. In the summer of 2017, more than 160 employees of non-profit organizations were surveyed online and by telephone.
