Fundraising Events

It’s easy to have fun in numbers! That’s why you can now create fundraising events at betterplace.org. Fundraising Events are opportunities to raise money for a particular occasion. Invite your friends, guests or colleagues to donate to a project of your choice in honor of your birthday, wedding celebration, an athletic competition, or something completely different (be creative!). With your individualized Fundraising Event webpage on betterplace.org, you have all the tools at your disposal to spread the word about your social engagement online or offline. If they‘d like to, participatory donors can also leave a comment and their photo on your Fundraising Event page. Creating a fundraising event makes it possible to collect high amounts of donations in a short time and with innovative methods. The following examples are suggestions to inspire and stimulate your creativity about fundraising events.

Ready, set, go!

starting block

You can run a marathon together, donating a specific amount for every kilometre to your chosen projects. This translates as well to other sport tournaments, where points can be changed into Euros donated. To up the ante, friends and relatives could commit to multiplying your donations. Alternatively, you could ask a sports league to set a price that will be donated as soon as an important record in a particular sport is broken. A team victory could be rewarded with a donation out of the fundraising event account.

football

Found a lottery team! Encourage donors to join a football betting pool in which the winnings are donated to your team’s projects. In this way, you can expand your betting pool to people who are interested in social engagement.

Going once, going twice…

Most people have things at home that they don’t need anymore. Your betterplace.org fundraising event team could collect these things and organise your own auction among friends and acquaintances, at a flea market or over ebay.

Don’t start with big intentions, but with small deeds.

cigarettes

Many people have good intentions. They want to quit smoking, lose weight or come on time to work. Help a group of like-minded people to keep their commitments. For each cigarette smoked, kilo gained, or minute too late, fundraising activists donate a decided amount to your projects. Or you could donate as a reward for each smoke-free day, each kilo lost, and each punctual meeting.

Philanthropy of the stomach

cake

Connoisseurs are more likely to pay more for a tasty treat or slug of something special if it’s for a good cause. Encourage your friends to purchase waffles or mulled wine at the Christmas or flea market, thereby donating to your cause. This could just as well be applied to hot dogs and refreshments at school or sport festivals.

Compassion means suffering

moustache

Challenge the men you know to grow a moustache. This will certainly raise curiosity about why they suddenly have facial hair, thereby attracting amused donors to give toward the goal of finally shaving it off. This tactic draws attention to your project and helps raise funds.
